Sociology and Information Technology???
We have given a Sociology assignment from our Sociology teacher. You may get amazed how I got a sociology assignment. Well we have a subject called Fundamentals of Sociology for our first semester. So I have to write an essay thing describing how IT has made its impact on contemporary Sri Lankan society's social solidarity. Hence now I try to make out a definition for IT which can be combined with Social Solidarity. I hope to finish my assignment within this week and I will publish it here too...

My Workstation of Our Old House(Meepa)
Me and my brother had an interesting workstation at Meepa house where we lived some weeks ago. After moving to the new place we couldn't find a time to make a new workstation yet and also we want to make an advance workstation than the old one(so it delays day by the day). Hence I add some pictures of our old workstation.

Ubuntu 9.04 - No Audio on HP Pavilion tx 2500 ?
I installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my brand new HP Pavilion tx2500 laptop and I got many troubles. Here I focus only on the sound problem that I faced. After installing Ubuntu I expected to see some troubles like not working touch screen...etc but there was an unexpected trouble too. It was my laptop had no sound. It shows that audio is working but actually my laptop was silent.
Before moving to find solutions to expected troubles I thought to resolve this issue immediately. So I searched Internet and found a solution in an Ubuntu Forum.
To achieve sound in my laptop I had to fix sound with a name of another laptop brand.
The sound fix is well known. To the file "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base" you have to add the following line at the bottom:
Then restart.
After rebooting it worked perfectly. And also I could try this code : options snd-hda-intel index=0 model=acer
But I succeeded with the first code so I dint try this acer code.
This practice thought me one thing that if you are a Linux user you don't get everything on a tray but if you try you can do what ever you want. Hence as a Linux user you have to go miles further than windows GUI user.

My old laptop - Acer aspire 4520
This is the very first laptop. I bought this more than two years ago. My brother bought this from Singapore hence I don't know where exactly he bought this from. It came with vista home basic and it has AMD Turion 64 MK-38 Processor 2.2GHz, 1GB RAM.
And it still works properly and I have installed Linux centOS, Fedora, Ubuntu, nubuntu, redhat and windows XP, 98 and open solaris. These all OS's worked well with no issue.

Industry executives and analysts often mistakenly talk about strategy as if it were some kind of chess match. But in chess, you have just two opponents, each with identical resources, and with luck playing a minimal role. The real world is much more like a poker game, with multiple players trying to make the best of whatever hand fortune has dealt them. In our industry, Bill Gates owns the table until someone proves otherwise. ~David Moschella
Who am I
Its easy to find the answer.......
